Extension for Homeland Security Grant Program Application Period

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) announced an extension of the application period for the State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSP). The six national priority areas in the Fiscal Year 2024 grant cycle are cybersecurity, soft targets and crowded places, intelligence and information sharing, domestic violent extremism, community preparedness and resilience, and election security.

The Fiscal Year 2024 Homeland Security Grant Program grant aims to provide funds for eligible entities to support state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts. The grant also assists in the prevention of terrorism and other catastrophic events, and the nation’s preparation for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security. The new deadline to apply for the SHSP grant is Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The Department of Homeland Security encouraged jurisdictions to make prioritization decisions based on their own assessment of their needs. Due to a reduction in overall funding, applicants making large grant requests should articulate how their award would satisfy a regional, statewide, or national priority. Applicants are also encouraged to put forward applications addressing both the national priority areas and Georgia’s most compelling new homeland security threats.

Please access the Authorized Equipment List for a list of approved equipment types allowed under FEMA’s preparedness grant programs.

Applications will only be accepted online via the Georgia EM Grants Manager. GEMA/HS is the state Administrative Authority for this program. Applicants needing grant support should contact the GEMA/HS Preparedness Grants and Programs Department at (404) 635-7095, or by email at hsgrants@gema.ga.gov.
