GA DDS Receives New Grant Funding Dedicated to Highway Safety Injury Prevention

Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Spencer R. Moore recently announced the receipt of a grant award of $129,686.28 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) with federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earmarked for continued traffic data research. This award is for the period of October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

This award will continue to fund a Traffic Data Analyst position dedicated to analyzing and interpreting population-based statistics to identify problems, recommend solutions and prepare responses for program development and implementation.

“I appreciate the continued grant support from GOHS that enables DDS to help analyze traffic data to support highway safety injury prevention activities at the federal, state and local levels,” commented DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore.

“Part of the GOHS mission is to assist in the implementation of programs and campaigns designed to prevent crashes and eliminate traffic deaths on our roads,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor Office of Highway Safety. “GOHS will continue to develop new partnerships and continue existing ones in order to create, refine and implement safety programs designed to help our state and nation reach our goal of zero traffic deaths.”

The DDS’ Traffic Data Analyst plays a crucial role in helping combat highway fatalities by analyzing traffic patterns, crash data, and driver behavior. Studies are being conducted to analyze violations such as speeding tickets and other violations that are most frequently associated with fatal crashes. Analyzing driver demographics can also help understand how factors like age, driving experience, or vehicle contribute to accident risks.
