State Representative Pedro Marin Introduces Legislation to Legalize Medical Marijuana

Georgia State Representative Pedro Marin (D-Duluth) recently introduced House Bill 738, legislation which would authorize the production, manufacturing and dispensing of marijuana to treat certain medical conditions in Georgia.

“Currently, Georgia law only provides for the prescription of a limited low THC oil for Georgians with severe medical conditions,” said Rep. Marin. “Legalizing medical marijuana, not just low THC oil, would benefit and help relieve pain that people living with serious medical conditions experience every day.”

House Bill 738 would legalize all parts of a cannabis plant to be used to treat various medical conditions. Specifically, HB 738 would allow for patients with the following medical conditions to be prescribed medical marijuana: cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, seizure disorders related to epilepsy or head injuries, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease; mitochondrial disease, Parkinson’s disease, sickle cell disease, sever Tourette’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, epidermolysis bullosa, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, ulcerative colitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), discoid cutaneous lupus, glaucoma, hepatitis C, fibromyalgia, severe arthritis, cerebral palsy, anorexia, cachexia and Huntington’s disease.

Additionally, Rep. Marin also announced that he plans to hold meetings and forums throughout this year to discuss his legislation with supporters, as well as constituents who may have questions or concerns with the legislation.

The First Reader Summary for HB 738: A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Chapter 11 of Title 2, Chapter 12 of Title 16, Article 1 of Chapter 2A of Title 31, and Chapter 1 of Title 51 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to seeds and plants generally, offenses against public health and morals, general provisions relative to the Department of Public Health, and general provisions relative to torts, respectively, so as to authorize the use, production, manufacturing, and dispensing of medical marijuana in this state; to provide for the medical conditions for which medical marijuana may be prescribed and used; to provide for conforming changes; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

I’ve had Georgia’s approved Low THC Oil Card for nearly 2 years without any way to purchase Low THC Oil in GA.
Due to foot dragging by Gov Kemp and continued lack of approved Vendors to Sell State approved products to those with card; moving onto Medical Marijuana seems virtually improbable.
8d love to see it happen but if GA can’t even get Low THC Oil for its now over 20K card holders after approx 5 years, what chance does MM have????
I’d like to see some movement on the already GA approved CBD products first. Let encourage this representative to stock that fire!
Currently, I’m making plans to move out if state for my pain medications.
They say we have an Opioid epidemic but when folks like me wean ourselves off Fentanyl and then wean our Oxycodone levels; we can’t get alternative plant based non addictive medicines to use. There’s a huge disconnect in this state! I wish someone could get this situation resolved cause there’s thousands of patients just like me here in my hometown and state.
