Joseph Coppola is no longer the interim police chief for the City of Guyton, city officials confirmed to AllOnGeorgia on Wednesday.

Though no official announcement was made with regard to the reasoning behind the decision, the former interim police chief is once again working in his role as a police sergeant.

Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie will assume the duties until the position of police chief is filled permanently. City officials believe that to be in the timeframe of the next 30 days.

Coppola has been interim police chief since March 2019, with a brief demotion in summer 2019, before once again serving as chief.
