OTC Launches Manufacture Ready In Screven County

Manufacture Ready is a 3-week program geared toward graduating high school seniors who have little to no manufacturing experience, and want to enter the high-demand field of manufacturing.

The Department of Continuing Education at Ogeechee Technical College is set to train the first cohort of Manufacture Ready students in Screven County in May of 2021.

Manufacture Ready is a three-week program geared toward graduating high school seniors who have little to no manufacturing experience, and want to enter the high-demand and exciting field of manufacturing. Students who graduate from the program are guaranteed a job interview with a major local manufacturer.

“Screven County has always had a strong manufacturing base,” says Dorie Bacon, Executive Director of the Screven County Development Authority.  “Manufacturing represents the largest segment of our local economy.  In order to maintain that vibrancy, our companies need a ready workforce.  We are excited that our partners at Ogeechee Technical College and Screven County High School have come together to create a new program that provides career opportunities for our students and a strong future for our local companies.”

During the training, students will have the opportunity to tour several local manufacturing plants and talk with company representatives about potential jobs. Interviews with the local manufacturers will be set up to assist with the hiring process.

“This is a great opportunity for our students,” stated Brian Scott, Screven County High School Principal.  “The Manufacture Ready program will prepare our students to be successful after high school and throughout their careers.  This also is an opportunity for us to partner with our local manufacturers to help build a trained and skilled workforce for our local economy.”

Manufacture Ready is sponsored by Ogeechee Technical College, Screven County High School, Screven County Development Authority, WorkSource Coastal, and WorkSource Georgia.

Screven County High School students interested in participating in Manufacture Ready can contact the school counselor for more information, visit the website, or call the Department of Continuing Education at Ogeechee Tech at 912.486.7408.
