The Boys and Girls Club Chattooga Unit hosted their annual “Champions for Children” luncheon at the club today.
This year’s speaker was Inky Johnson, former football player for University of Tennessee.
Inky Johnson is a former University of Tennessee player with a career that seemed to point toward the possibility of being drafted into the NFL. An injury on the field during his junior year in 2006 left his right arm completely paralyzed and almost took his life. Inky survived, but lost all possibilities of a professional football career. His story of triumph over tragedy and his desire to use his story to help others was a powerful inspiration to all those attending.
Especially noteworthy was the attention and level of respect given by the County school students absorbing his message. The event was put together by the Boys and Girls Club Board and primary sponsor Burdick Enterprises.
