Southeast Georgia Health – Camden Hospital Safety Score Drops

The Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus has earned a ‘C’ grade on its most recent hospital safety scorecard, a drop from the scoring earlier this year. 

The Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus has earned a ‘C’ grade on its most recent hospital safety scorecard, a drop from the scoring earlier this year.

The grade was announced this week as part of a biannual report card issued, in which Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus has scored A, B, and C grades previously. The campus, however, has not scored an ‘A’ grade since Spring 2016.

The healthcare report card is produced twice a year by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private health care experts. The Leapfrog Group advocates for public access to quality and safety data from all U.S. hospitals.

The report card notes that Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden declined to provide data on the facility’s efforts to prevent MRSA infections, infections in the blood, urinary tract infections, and infections after surgery.

The facility also declined to provide data on how it works to prevent deaths from treatable complications.

Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden scored ‘Above Average’ on:

  • Preventing dangerous objects left in patients after surgery
  • Preventing collapsed lungs
  • Preventing serious breathing problems
  • Preventing accidental cuts & tears
  • Handwashing
  • Safe administration of medication
  • Communication about medications
  • Preventing dangerous bed sores
  • Preventing air/gas in the blood
  • Preventing patient injuries and falls
  • Tracking and reducing risks to patients
  • Effective leadership to prevent errors
  • Enough qualified nurses
  • Communication with nurses
  • Responsiveness of hospital staff

Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden scored ‘Average’ on:

  • Preventing the split of surgical wounds

Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden scored ‘Below Average’ on:

  • Preventing death from serious treatable complications
  • Preventing serious blood clots
  • Preventing accidental cuts & tears
  • staff working together to prevent errors
  • Communication about discharges
  • Communication with doctors
  • Specially-trained doctors treat ICU patients
