See you at the polls!!
On the ballot today are two Summerville City Council Seats currently held by incumbents Dale Housch and Zach Martin. Council Seat Number 5 is being contested by Charlie Bennett, a lifelong resident of Chattooga county and newcomer to the political arena. Incumbent Zach Martin is also a lifelong resident of Summerville, works with the school system and is a second generation business owner. Â Council Seat Number 3 is being contested by incumbent Dale Housch, a resident of Summerville for 44 years and Earl Parris a lifelong resident of Summerville and former council member.
Chattooga County voters will also decide whether to extend SPLOST. Â The SPLOST is designed to spread the burden of school improvements from land owners to residents and non-residents paying sales taxes, as any County purchases become a shared investment in the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. The SPLOST tax amounts to 3 cents on the dollar of which the school system is the beneficiary of 2/3rds. SPLOST dollars have already contributed to the construction of Chattooga High School and the new gym at Trion. Future projects include an expansion at Leroy Massey Elementary School and a softball field at Chattooga High School, a new gym a Lyerly, therefore allowing the County to compete at higher levels both academically and athletically.
The City of Trion will be voting on two council seats. Â Trion Council Seats 4 and 5 are each being contested by 3 challengers.
The Town of Lyerly will decide whether to allow alcohol sales on Sunday and fluoride content of water.
