Chattooga Band Unveils Elvis Show

For the first time in Gene Greer’s tenure as director of the Marching Indians, band camp did not kick off on the practice field on the first day of band camp, July 19. Pouring rain stopped the band from setting drill on their 2021-22 halftime show “Elvis”. Instead the band used that rainy first day to work on their music in sectionals.

Tuesday, July 20 was another day spent indoors, students working on sectionals and passing off their music, another requirement of band. On Wednesday however, students were officially on their practice field setting drill and braving the summer heat. For eight days the CHS Marching Indians worked diligently to complete the opening song. For the outsider, this may not seem like a big deal but to Gene Greer and his band students it is. In prior years, the entire show was set during band camp’s first week. Other years, it would take an entire band camp to complete a show.

 

Nevertheless, this year’s band made up in age from 12-18 years old and many being first time students, they complete two weeks of band camp on Friday with their preview show for family, friends and community watching from the stands of the Little Big Horn stadium.

If you missed Friday night’s preview show, don’t worry there will be plenty more to see this season. Come to a home game, if you can, travel with the Tribe motorcade to an away game and remember the good times the King of Rock and Roll gave us.
