The cause of the wildfire is currently unknown and under investigation. Georgia Forestry Commission wildland firefighters remain on scene to monitor and suppress the fire.

From Georgia Forestry Commission Director Tim Lowrimore : “The safety of our brave wildland firefighters is always our top concern. These men and women are highly trained, yet fire behavior and conditions can be unpredictable, and accidents can happen. Yesterday we were reminded of this when our Dade County wildland firefighter was seriously injured while controlling a wildfire. Fortunately, our injured employee received swift care and is hospitalized and in good spirits today.”
